A Good Weekend

So about two weeks ago I emailed a lab at McLean Hospital outside of Boston about a possible research assistantship. They had a posting on the Psych Dep't bulletin board but I only saw it at the end of February and they said that they would be conudcting interviews in Feb and March. I figured I had no shot, but I threw an email at them anyway, and they emailed me back that night asking if I could come interview with them that coming monday (Feb 27th). I freaked out for a while but decided, even though I felt like I had no chance whatsoever, I should do it if for nothing more than the practice. So I went in for an interview, felt surprisingly good about it after; the people in the lab were awesome, the atmosphere seemed wonderful, the research was super super exciting and it was in Boston which, let's be honest, is a poor man's New York (ha!), but isn't too far from home and might be a nice change of pace. At least they'll have awesome seafood and decent asian food unlike my four years at Amherst.

This past Friday I got an e-mail from the PI extending me a job offer three or four days before they said they would have decisions and despite the fact that they hadn't finished interviewing everyone yet. They put me on the project I wanted on neuroregeneration and I've basically been freaking out ever since. (I accepted the offer by the way) So, I'll be poor but doing really cool research next year in Boston. Who wants to come with me? =]

Also this weekend was our choral/orchestra performance of Mahler's 2nd (Resurrection) Symphony that managed to come together pretty well after slaving away for hours and hours in rehearsal for it. It's a really amazing piece (it's Mahler! a little hyperemotional as lots of his works tend to be, but if you let yourself get wrapped up in it it's truly incredible). It's a little depressing to think that that may be my last big orchestra concert ever (ack! what am I going to do about music after college?) but it's a pretty good piece to end on.
