New Digs

The past few days have been extremely hectic. Moved in to my apartment in Somerville for real. No pictures yet because everything's a gigantic mess but things are starting to come together, and I'll try to get some up soon. The past two days have involved waiting for the cable man (who never showed), clinging to weak wireless connections, a TON of furniture assembly, two trips to Ikea, two trips to Target, one trip to Bed Bath and Beyond, 1.5 hours of being really lost in Boston while trying to get to the Asian supermarket in Allston (only part of that was being actually lost, alot of it was driving the wrong way down commonwealth ave for a really long time). I think it's time to invest in a good (or any) map of Boston.

I'm rather mad at McLean's HR dept who, after receiving my criminal record form in March (which they said would only take 2-3 wks to process), decided they were ready to send me the rest of my forms only about 1 week before I moved here. Since they asked me for my address on June 6th, I thought I ought to give them my address in NY since it should've gotten there before I moved here on Jun 16th and I haven't got my mailbox key yet, so it would've been useless if it came here anyway. Apparently asking for my address on June 6th means they don't send out the forms until June 13th, which in turns means they got to NY after I moved up here. Now I have to go in early to HR tomorrow to tell them I didn't get the letter, and I'm sure they'll berate me and then I'll have to go through the whole damn day telling the various offices I need to check in with during orientation that I haven't got the necessary forms.

God damn HR.

In happier news, Aruba was a splendid splendid time. Pictures are up here. AA managed to muck up the first two days of our little holiday with a delayed flight and then leaving our luggage (along with half the plane's) at JFK. However once our stuff arrived it was fun times on the beach with flamingos, iguanas, pelicans and hermit crabs and a regular glutton-fest every night at dinner (brazilian bbq, seafood, seafood and more seafood).

That's all for now. Rather nervous about work starting tomorrow. It's been so long since I interviewed at McLean and got really excited about the lab and the research. I hope it's still as awesome as I remembered it.
