One month later
Not much to report from Boston after now officially having lived here for a month. Still having a generally good time. Still spending way too much money going out to booze with people from McLean and Amherst. Work is good. Life is good.
Except that I haven't played the flute in many a month. And, in my supreme idiocy, forgot to pack both flute and music upon moving to Boston. I've been busy and distracted enough to not think about it all that much, but today was a slow day (at last) and in my general lazing about and listening to music, I started realizing how much I miss flute and orchestra. It was a little surprising how empty I feel without it.
In response to my music-related melancholia, I spent alot of today looking up BSO performances (they have a four-concert subscription series for 21-38 yr olds, including cocktail hours and private lectures before the concerts; it is always amusing to me when orchestras and museums set up these sort of singles things), area college/community orchestras to audition for and even musing over the possibility of buying a picc (despite the fact that i generally dislike the thing, it is an advantage when auditioning and can you argue with solos?) I wouldn't go crazy with a professional level piccolo, but a well-made solid wood piccolo would probably be in the ~$2000 range. Is it worth it? I'd say yes if I knew I would be playing in an orchestra during my two years here in Boston and in grad school. But I guess I don't know if I will be.
Sigh. At least I'll be going to Tanglewood on August 5th. Mahler's 2nd with Ozawa conducting the BSO. Love it.
